I’ve been crazy for the name Alice lately. No clue why, as it’s not a family name and not a usual favorite. I’ve been finding Tom Waits’ album of the same name in every record store in the Philadelphia area, and it seems to be a sign. (By the way, I found it on vinyl. WANT.) You can listen to the eponymous song from the album here. It’s a lovely song, if sad, as most of his tend to be, at least a little bit.
Anyway, I just love Alice’s sound and girlish yet grown up sound, along with its healthy dose of Victorian feel. Sometimes I feel it’s too much Alice’s Diner and not enough Alice in Wonderland, but those episodes are usually mercifully brief, and I come back to it now and again. It’s been on my lists for a very long time, and seems to be in between upswings in popularity, sitting at 346. Of course, by the time I have kids, it will be Top 100, I just know it. 😛 That seems to be the way it works; everything I love gets popular!
So I’ll regale you with some Alice combos, most just made up here:
- Alice Dorothea Elinor
- Alice Eliza Daphne
- Alice Pandora Margo
- Alice Theresa May/Margo
- Alice Cecilia May/Margo
- Alice Cordelia/Cecilia Daisy
- Alice Georgiana Fern
- Alice Margareta Josephine
- Alice Petra Philomel
- Alice Philomena Clare
- Alice Penelope Joan
- Alice Felicity Eve
Seems as though I like a endings after Alice. I think they add a lot of bounce in a combo, if you know what I mean. I could add some more, but maybe later or another day. What are your thoughts on Alice? What do you think of my combos? (Remember they’re a work in progress!) What are your own Alice combos? Thanks for stopping by!

I like Alice but not enough to put her first. Mostly because next to Josephine, Alice seems woefully plain. So I use her in the middle. And you know where she is! But I do have a few “Alice Up Front” combos for other folks, and one for me, just because. Alice Celandine June is mine own. Alice Tinuviel Philomel for you and Alice Richensa, Alice Francesca, Alice Dorota, Alice Eglantine, Alice Henrietta & Alice Ophelia are all names on my collected favorites that aren’t fleshed out more.
Alice Penelope Joan really makes me smile. I love the light Alice Penelope with solid Joan to ground. Really lovely. Alice Pandora is fantabulous but I dislike Margo there, she feels stunted and Margo’s pretty, just not up to Pandora’s level. Alice Pandora Fern, Alice Pandora Eve (I like that, mythology-wise)! Ihad Cecily Pandora Alice on my lists for a good while, Maybe Alice Pandora Cecile?
I’m also quite a fan of Alice Dorothea Elinor, so elegant, Alice Petra Philomel; so fun to say aloud! And Alice Cordelia Daisy (or even Alice Cordelia Cecile) is sprightly and sweet.
I think Alice is a winner of a name and I won’t be surprised (or dismayed) if she reaches top 10 status in less time than I thought. I like hearing Alice, always have and think it’s time for her to shine again.

Thanks for the opinions, as always, Lola! You know I value your input. Alice Tinuviel Philomel is cool despite (or maybe because of) the double el endings. Alice Pandora Fern is really nice, not usable for me in real life (a least 2 names must honor/mean something personal for me to make it acceptable to use 2 middles, personal rule) but lovely lovely lovely. Alice Cordelia Daisy was one of my favorites; I thought pretty much exactly the same thing, sprightly and sweet. I like how the Ds bounce off of one another. Alice Dorothea Elinor is one of my favorites off of my own list as well, and feasible. I would be worried if Alice hit the Top Ten because I’d like her to be an option, but her time is nigh, I think.
